Unemployment Benefits are payments of benefits that are made by the government to those people whose are currently unemployed. These unemployment benefits are only provided to those people who have registered themselves as unemployed and only on the condition that they are currently looking for a job but haven’t been able to find one, that is, the person should be proved to be without a job with none mistake of his own.

Unemployment benefits may be derived from the government based insurance system. State unemployment insurance programs looks after providing the unemployment benefits to the concerned people and work within the guidelines set by the Federal Law. These benefits have to be shown on the federal income tax return. The Unemployment Benefits given to a person varies. It is not fixed for every individual within the jurisdiction and neither is it same for all the jurisdictions in a country. Depending on the status of the person registered as unemployed and the jurisdiction to which he belongs, the amount may be small which can cover only the basic needs and may somewhat compensate for the lost pay. In most states of United States, the unemployment benefits are provided for a maximum of 26 weeks and additional benefits are provided only in circumstances of high employment. In case a person is declared to be not eligible to be considered for the unemployment benefits, than he can challenge the decision through an appeal process.

Unemployment benefits have provided a great relief to people who have for some reason become unemployed and finding it difficult to make ends meet.
