The Social Security Office is a self-governing agency of the US federal government which administers the social security. It is a social insurance program that consists of disability, survivor’s benefits and retirement. To meet the criteria for these reimbursements, nearly all American workers pay the Social Security Taxes on their salary, future payback are based on the worker’s contributions. 

The Social Security Office is headquartered in Woodland. The agency comprises of 8 processing centers, 10 regional offices, 37 teleservice centers and around 1300 field offices. In the year 2007, around 62,000 people were engaged by the Social Security Office. The social insurance program of the social security office administers the survivors, old age that provides monthly benefits to the disabled or retired employees, their children and spouses, and also to the survivors of the insured workers. In the year 2007, around 47 million workers in America received roughly US$492 billion by the social security office under the benefit program. The benefit programs are financed by the mandatory contributions which employees, employers and the self-insured citizens pay. These incomes are placed in a unique trust fund by the social security office.

While the founding of the social security predated the development of the up to date digital computer, punch cards, and the social security scheme made an extensive use of the mechanized unit record tools from the program’s commencement. This permitted the social security office to achieve a very high level of competence. The social security office costs have always been a very small fraction of the benefits paid.
